The theory of functions of one complex variable is one of the areas where geometric methods in analysis were first developed in the 19’th century, and continues to be an active field even today. Many of the techniques and results of complex analysis have served as models for far reaching developments in other areas of mathematics. There are deep connections to hyperbolic geometry, number theory and harmonic analysis.
